The final four to add to his list of 14 includes a 20-something party planner in Atlanta who grew close to the golfer in the past 18 months, reports News of the World.

According to pals, Woods also enjoyed a night with a stunning 21-year-old Illinois university student in Vegas.

The others are a blonde party planner from Orlando, who has links to the UK, and a brunette single mum dancer called Star he met while he was in San Diego.

Ruchika molestation case: Blame-game begins

 A political blame game began Friday over the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case. While former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala denied promoting former top cop S.P.S. Rathore, convicted for molesting the teenager 19 years ago, and blamed former Congress governments for shielding him, the Congress said he was abdicating his responsibility."S.P.S. Rathore was chargesheeted during my government. Back then, when the complaint came, an FIR was immediately lodged. Yet my government was not satisfied with the action.

                          Therefore, we ordered a departmental enquiry into the case," Chautala said at a press conference in New Delhi."This is an incident of 1990 and at that time party's chief minister was Master Hukam Singh. And the moment it was brought to his notice he ordered an inquiry into the matter. After the inquiry's report, he was suspended."It was during the Bhajan Lal and Bansi Lal governments that Rathore was promoted, not ours," he added."I am surprised why we are being blamed for this," Chautala contended.

                          A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Chandigarh had Monday held Rathore, former Haryana director general of police (DGP), guilty of molesting 14-year-old Ruchika in Panchkula town Aug 12, 1990 and sentenced him to a six-month prison term. Ruchika, a budding tennis player, had committed suicide three years after the incident.Chautala evaded questions on why a molestation case was not registered against Rathore despite his Indian National Lok Dal government was in power in Haryana in 1990-91.

                He also evaded the issue of his government recommending Rathore's name for the President's Police Medal in 1999, saying that the file must have been moved administratively.But Anand Prakash, the father of Ruchika's friend Aradhana who fought a long legal battle, did not buy Chautala's argument."He cannot blame only the Congress.  Even after R.R. Singh (the then Haryana DGP in 1990) gave his report recommending registration of a case against Rathore, the government took no action," Girhotra said in Chandigarh.

Nitin Gadkari: From a humble student leader to BJP chief

It has been a long journey for 52-year-old Nitin Gadkari from a Sangh swayamsevak, to a student leader and to be the youngest-ever President of the BJP.

Gadkari who was appointed by the party's Parliamentary Board to the top post on Saturday, is a disciplined soldier of RSS and will have the distinction of becoming the first BJP chief from Maharashtra.

It is a coincidence that he hails from Nagpur, the headquarters of the RSS -- which has always been the guiding force for the main opposition party.

Gadkari, who has replaced Rajnath Singh, has been entrusted with the responsibility at a time when Congress is playing the Rahul Gandhi card, projecting the young leader as the future prime minister and BJP is facing serious challenges on the leadership front.

The BJP leader, who was till now the chief of Maharashtra BJP, proved his mettle as an effective minister in the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state ten years back.

Though an 'outsider' in Delhi circles, he is no babe in the woods and is known in the BJP as a clear thinker having a forward-looking vision and an organiser who knows how to take the party along.

Gadkari has maintained his close proximity with the RSS leadership right from the days of the then RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras and later with Rajju Bhaiyya, K C Sudarshan and the current head of the organisation Mohan Bhagwat.

In fact, the talk in BJP circles is that Gadkari became the hot favourite for the top job following Bhagwat's search for a new leader to turn the party around.

Jaswant book ban: SC issues notice to Gujarat govt

The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to Gujarat government on a petition filed by Jaswant Singh challenging the ban on his book on Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

   The Gujarat government had banned Jaswant Singh's controversial book on Jinnah alleging it defamed Sardar Patel. The hearing is set for September 8.

A bench comprising Justice Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph asked the state government's counsel to seek instruction on the issue

Senior Advocates Fali S Nariman and Soli Sorabjee, appearing for the veteran politician, contended that banning of the book violated the fundamental rights of its author and publisher.

Banning the book earlier this month, the state government in a statement said, "Jaswant Singh's book questions role of Sardar Patel during the partition of India as well as his patriotic spirit. This is an attempt to tarnish the image of Patel who is considered the architect of modern united India."

"It is a bid to defame Patel by distorting historical facts," it charged. "So, the state government has decided to ban the book with immediate effect for wider public interest," it said.

"As per the ban, there cannot be sale, distribution or publication of the book in the state," it said.

The ban on Jaswant Singh’s book came after he was expelled from the party.

The 71-year-old politician challenged the state government's notification alleging that the authority banned the book 'Jinnah -- India, Partition, Independence' arbitrarily and without going through its contents. It amounts to violation of his fundamental rights of speech and expression, Singh said.

"Fundamental right of freedom of speech has been sought to be taken away by the Gujarat government by banning the book through a hasty and arbitrary notification," Singh, who has written ten books, said in his petition.

Terming the ban as illegal, the eight-time MP submitted that the book was based on "historical facts" and five years of extensive research and that it could not be proscribed on the state government's "specious" plea.

Singh said the step against his book amounted to "banning thinking" and likened it to the one taken against noted author Salman Rushdie for his controversial work 'Satanic Verses', PTI reported.

Kakodkar ignoring facts on N-tests, says Santhanam

K Santhanam, a retired DRDO scientist, today accused former AEC chief Anil Kakodkar of "ignoring facts" about the yield of the nuclear tests done at Pokhran in May 1998, calling him "a liar" motivated by institutional loyalties.




Kakodkar had said yesterday that DRDO scientists had provided only "logistic support" to the nuclear test and that it would not be correct to assume Santhanam knew everything, as information was given only on a need-to-know basis.

"There are several inaccuracies in his (Kakodkar's) statement. The DRDO was a major partner in the 1998 tests and not what Kakodkar has claimed...That we only provided logistical support. That is very far away from truth," Santhanam said.

"He (Kakodkar) is motivated by institutional loyalties," he said when asked about the former AEC chief's assertion that the nuclear tests were a success and had yielded more than 45 kilo tons.

"We (DRDO scientists) were there as those responsible for the explosive trigger and measuring chain reaction in the core. We were responsible for full-fledged high-end explosive development and production without which the atom bomb is naked," Santhanam, a key scientist involved in the 1998 nuclear tests, said.

Food inflation rises to 19.05% on high vegetable rates

Rising prices of potatoes, onions and pulses pushed food inflation to a high of 19.05 per cent in the fourth week of November, mounting pressure on the government to rein in rates of essential items.

Food inflation was 17.47 per cent for the week ended November 21.

However, the overall wholesale price index-based inflation for the month ended October stood at 1.34 per cent.

The Reserve Bank of India will review its current easy monetary policy stance on January 29, although RBI Governor D Subbarao has said WPI is "quite modest" compared to consumer prices.

A worried Congress president Sonia Gandhi had said during the week that "price rise of essential commodities continues to be a matter of highest concern to us."

As per the data released today, potatoes cost more than double on an annual basis, while onions 23 per cent more. Rates of other essential commodities like rice rose by 11.75 per cent, wheat 12.60 per cent and pulses rose by 42 per cent.

At the same time, fruits were costlier by 13 per cent while milk was 11.36 per cent more expensive.

Sonia Gandhi had said she has personally spoken to the Prime Minister and the finance minister on the issue and they have assured her that the government will take "every possible step" to address the issue.

"If inflationary pressure persists for a long time it can fuel inflationary expectations and monetary policy will have to take a nuanced view on this," RBI governor said yesterday.

Deepika loses her temper

Post her break-up with Ranbir Kapoor two months ago, Deepika hasn't spoken about their relationship publicly.

Recently, when the actress was spotted at a product launch, media persons siezed the opportunity to question her about her ex.

On being asked what she plans to do about the RK tattoo on her back, the question was met with stony silence. Another question that followed was, "Is the brand coming out with a cream that will erase your tattoo?"

Deepika started fidgeting but chose to keep mum. The journalists were relentless and went on to ask, "Are you happy after your break-up with Ranbir?"

By now the poor actress, who was probably regretting ever getting the blessed tattoo, snapped, "Of course, I am happy. Don't I look happy?"
Not surprisingly, the session didn't last very long. A visibly uncomfortable Deepika fled from the backstage exit.

Tiger Woods attempts suicide

In a shocking development at Florida Health Centre Hospital, it has been learned that golfing legend Tiger Woods was admitted due to an overdose of Ambien, a sleeping pill. There was another startling visual from outside the hospital showing a blonde woman being rushed into the facility directly from Tiger’s Florida house.
The celebrity gossip website TMZ first reported, “Tiger was admitted under an alias -- William Smith. His wife, Elin Nordegren was by his side.

As we first reported, Elin gave paramedics two pill bottles at the accident scene -- we now know the prescriptions were for Ambien and Vicodin. Tiger was in and out of consciousness, snoring at the scene, and our sources say he clearly appeared to be under the influence of something -- not alcohol.

Earlier, TMZ reported that, ‘An ambulance reportedly raced to Tiger Woods' house in Windermere, FL overnight -- and transported someone to the hospital ... but there are conflicting reports.’

The website claimed in its report that Orange County Fire officials confirm that a rescue call was made at 2:36 AM from Tiger’s home on Deacon Circle, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The Sentinel claims the patient refused to be taken to the hospital.

Earlier, The Sun reported to have revealed of Tiger’s link up with a celebrated porn star Holly Sampson.

Manmohan Singh is most suitable leader for PM's post: Rahul Gandhi

On a two-day tour of Uttar Pradesh, the Congress

general secretary Rahul Gandhi said that his focus is not on Mayawati or 2012 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh but to try and change the political discourse and the way politics

is conducted across the country.

He said that he is here to involve youth in politics and also his party with the process being set to roll by ushering in internal democracy within the Youth Congress and the NSUI.

Rahul pointed out that he wants to devote his time to energise the youth and does not see himself as the Prime Minister, stressing on the fact that Manmohan Singh is most suitable and mertorious for the job.

Choosing not to comment directly on the move by the Mayawati government to scuttle his press conference, Rahul Gandhi said "the politics of the state is set in the past but I want to change it to the future. The venue of my press conference does not matter. If it suits somebody to get the venue of my press conference changed it is fine by me. What is important to me is that I can communicate to the youth and continue with my work".

He said that he does not focus on Mayawati or the BSP but to chage the political thought of people in UP.

The Mayawati government had on Monday reportedly cancelled the booking of the auditorium at the Tourism Directorate where Rahul’s press conference was initially scheduled. Though fearing a political controversy the government, within hours, changed its stance and gave the go ahead to hold the event at the same auditorium. The party however chose to hold the conference at a hotel on Tuesday.

Gandhi who has been devoting a lot of his time to the state said that he was not eyeing the 2012 assembly elections in the state. "People usually mistake the Mission 2012 to be the assembly election in UP. I am not interested in the said elections. My only aim is to involve youth and bring about a new thought in the state’s politics" he said.

He said that the internal democracy being promoted in the youth bodies of the congress has forced even the rival organisations to bring about changes in their party’s.

Rahul said that there are many people in the Congress who are better suited than him to become the Prime Minister and he does not see himself as the PM. He said that Manmohan Singh is the most meritorious and capable to be the PM and even political opponents recognise his calibre.

Rahul refused to comment on the indictment of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by the Liberhan Commission saying that he had the utmost respect for the senior BJP leader.

The young MP said that he had met the PM about the inflation and said one of the reasons why prices were rising is because there was hoarding at the state level.

Telangana remains paralysed, TRS chief continues fast

Normal life remained paralysed on Monday in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh for the second successive day as Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao's fast-unto-death entered the ninth day.
Barring use of force by police and paramilitary forces at Osmania University in which some students and journalists were injured and protesters pelting stones on a train, injuring ten security personnel were injured, the second day of the 48-hour shutdown called by TRS demanding a separate state of Telangana passed off peacefully.
Life came to a standstill in Hyderabad and nine other districts of Telangana as buses of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) remained off the roads while road and rail  blockades by the protesters affected vehicular and train traffic.
All educational institutions, shops, business establishments, cinema theatres and petrol pumps remained closed in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.
Widespread protests, rallies, and sit-ins by the protesters marked the shutdown. Students, lawyers, government employees and workers of Singareni Collieries joined the protest.
The movement of trains was hit as hundreds of protesters squatted on the tracks in  Karimnagar and Warangal districts. The New Delhi-bound AP Express and Rajdhani Express were among the dozen trains stopped by the protesters in the two districts.
Ten personnel of Railway Protection Force were injured when protesters pelted stone on the Kerala Express near Uppal railway station in Karimnagar.
Police and paramilitary forces used force to quell student protests at Osmania University. Some journalists were also injured.
Rapid Action Force (RAF) and police personnel baton-charged students on the campus to foil their plans to take out a rally to the state assembly.
Armed security personnel who entered the campus in the morning chased students to a neighbouring area and attacked them. A police officer said the students were pelting stones.
Student leaders who were on a hunger strike also received the blows, as did some journalists covering the protests.
About 15 students and five journalists were injured in the police action, triggering angry reaction from Telangana sympathisers.
Following a strong protest by journalists, the government ordered an inquiry and transferred Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Stephen Ravindra.
The State Human Right Commission has also initiated a probe.
TRS members tried to stall the proceedings of state assembly, which began its winter session Monday, demanding that it pass a resolution for carving out a separate Telangana. The house was adjourned after paying tributes to former chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who died in  a helicopter crash Sep 2.
The ruling Congress party agreed to discuss Telangana issue but rejected the TRS demand for passing a resolution.
In Delhi, Congress party spokesman Manish Tiwari said the party was not against a separate Telangana and it was trying to evolve a consensus on the issue. He advised TRS chief to adopt a  reasonable approach and not to precipitate matters.
State Congress chief D. Srinivas left for New Delhi to apprise party president Sonia Gandhi of the situation arising out of the hunger strike by Chandrasekhara Rao.
Congress legislators from Telangana region also met here to discuss their strategy in view of the ongoing movement.
Meanwhile, KCR, as the TRS chief is popularly known, continued his fast unto death at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here.
Doctors at NIMS said KCR was stable but had become very weak as he has not been taking food for the past nine days.
Chief Minister K. Rosaiah personally went to NIMS Sunday night to persuade the TRS chief to end the fast but the latter made it clear that he would not call it off unless a decision was taken on carving out a separate Telangana.
Rosaiah, who was accompanied by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) president Ajit Singh and state health minister D. Nagender, told KCR that the central government was seized of the Telangana issue but the TRS chief demanded that the state assembly pass a resolution.
KCR was arrested Nov 29 by the police near Karimnagar town when he was heading to Siddipet town in Medak district for launching a fast unto death. He was taken to Khammam town, where a court sent him to jail for 14 days.

Asaram Bapu booked for attempt to murder

Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu has been booked for attempt to murder a former trustee of his ashrams in Gujarat and Rajasthan, Raju  Chandak, who was shot at by two unidentified bikers late on Saturday night. The incident took place in Sabarmati area, quite near the sect’s headquarters, at 9 pm.

The assailants fired at Chandak thrice, hitting him in the right shoulder and back. He was rushed to Sal Hospital where his condition is stable. Sabarmati police recorded his statement in hospital where he said that, after serving as a trustee for 20 years, he had dissociated himself because of “immoral activities” in the ashrams. After the mysterious death of two boys, Dipesh and Abhishek Vaghela, at Motera ashram in Ahmedabad earlier this year, he had given a damning statement against the ashram to the inquiry panel probing the deaths.

Since then, Chandak claimed, he was getting telephonic threats from Ghaziabad and Delhi. On Saturday evening, he left work in Bapunagar, where he runs an incense-making factory, for home in Sabarmati. After crossing the Chimanbhai Patel overbridge, two unidentified persons on a bike caught up with him near Sabarmati Arts and Commerce College and fired at him. Hit by bullets, he managed to flee the spot and reach home at Mahavir Apartment. “Chandak has alleged that the murder attempt was at the behest of Asaram Bapu. We are investigating and also trying to track down the shooters,” said inspector of Sabarmati police station, MB Joshi.
